Drop Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
  • 3½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ tsp vanilla, separated
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 pounds confectioners sugar
  • 3 Tbs butter, softened
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup milk
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 370ยบ.
  2. Sift flour and next four ingredients {through nutmeg} together, and set aside.
  3. In large bowl, cream butter, sugar and brown sugar with fork or wooden spoon until smooth. Add eggs and 1 tsp of the vanilla and mix well.
  4. Mix in flour mixture alternatively with buttermilk, stirring after each addition. Don't over beat.
  5. Drop onto greased cookie sheets. Bake just until done, checking after 8 minutes.
  6. While cookies bake, Cream butter with remaining vanilla and about ½ cup of the powdered sugar. Continue adding powdered sugar, alternately with milk, until desired consistency. If frosting is too thin, add more powdered sugar. If too thick, add milk, 1 tsp at a time.
